Tawin Pyar Sapphire Mine (Blue Royal Mine)
Rockstoc’s commitment to the Burmese artisanal miners with whom we work extends beyond our community-based initiatives and into the heart of the Burmese landscape itself with our newest collaborative project. We are honored to announce our investment partnership in the Tawin Pyar sapphire mine. Located in Mogok, Myanmar, the mine is approximately 20 kms from the famous Baw Mar region, an area renowned for its production of some of the finest royal blue sapphires in the world.
The initiative is a co-operative partnership with an experienced team consisting of seven artisanal miners, the landowner, and three investors. Tawin Pyar’s sapphires will be mined using hand extraction methods to maintain the ecological integrity of the area, with gravel tailings being replaced in work areas as the miners progress in excavation. These practices adhere to our commitment to produce high quality gems while protecting the environment of the areas from which they are mined.
Profit shares from the mine extend to the artisanal miners, who each receive approximately six percent of the profit, with the rest divided between the investors and the landlord. As investors, we receive the right of first refusal for any rough sapphires found here. The exciting part of this means that we will be able to buy/sell from mine direct, but most importantly, when the mine produces, everyone in the co-op benefits.
