Our Gemological Standards

Gemology at Rockstoc LLC

It is our standard to make every attempt to accurately describe goods as they appear, disclose treatments and conditions, report origin when known, and identify any other pertinent gemstone specifications as is reasonable in the trade.  Our commitment to ethical conduct is woven into every aspect of what we do.  In our daily work, we strive to cultivate a community that promotes equity in the mine to market pipeline.  We maintain these principles utilizing the following industry accepted standards.

Grading Methodology

Our grading methodology is conducted by skilled graders using 10x magnification, following the internationally accepted standards of diamond and gemstone grading established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), with additional guidelines based upon the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and best industry practices.

Our graders may use any combination of the following tools:  microscope, 10x loupe, spectroscope, dichroscope, conoscope, polarizing filters, refractometer, Chelsea filter, Hanneman and other color filters, calibrated scales, millimeter gauges, calipers, thermal probes, incandescent and fluorescent light, LongWave and ShortWave ultraviolet light, and in some cases advanced technology such as photoluminescence, raman spectroscopy, FTIR spectrometry, and X-ray may be used.
